Sun to Sun
03:21
|
|||
What’s wrong people with this old town
Everywhere I go I hear the same old sound
Talk, talk, talk--talk from sun to sun
And while we talk another fool goes and buys a gun.
Pretty little girl in her pretty new pink socks
Got shot up just a-walkin’ down the sidewalk
Dreams all gone, all dead and gone
While they die another fool goes and buys a gun.
Sweet little kids sprayed with bullets in a schoolhouse
No one seems to give a damn, we’re livin’ in a madhouse
Prayers, tears, prayers from sun to sun
And while we pray another fool goes and buys a gun.
Walkin’ around in a world gone crazy
Big shot politicians in their black Mercedes
Won’t do nothin’, not one thing from sun to sun
And while they’re doin’ nothin’ ‘nother fool goes and buys a gun.
What’s wrong people with the US of A
Lost our minds and we’ve lost our way
Pray, cry, talk from sun to sun
And while we weep and moan ‘nother fool goes and buys a gun.

In My Young Days
04:13
|
|||
Mountain mornings, mountain laurel
Pictures of life slowly fading away
Rocking chair rhythm, waltz time livin’
Said ‘you know I was a lot like you in my day’
In my young days
I remember, this old woman
Her name was Amazing but they all called her May
She came from East Kentucky to old California
She told me stories bout her younger days
In my young days
In my young days just try and catch me
Burrs in my hair, skin off my knees
They hushed and they scolded, said ‘lordy have mercy'
But most of the time they just let me be
In my young days
4 walls around me did not contain me
But I don’t get around much, can’t shake these old bones
Still I once bet my body big dozer would turn back
And I set a few jackrocks for old Mother Jones
In my young days
I still see you, I won’t forget you
Daydreams awake a sweet memory
You smiled and you nodded when I told you my secret
How I flew with an eagle across the great sea
In my young days

A fly tied on a graphite rod
Above my head is swishing
A mountain stream
A sportsman’s dream
How can I keep from fishing?
No job can stop my angling thoughts
For everyday I’m wishing
That life could pay
It’s own sweet way
And I could keep on fishing.
For when the river
Round me roars
I know the fish they liveth
For when they bit
A well tied fly
I know the joy it giveth.
No job can stop my angling thoughts
For everyday I’m wishing
That I could quit
Put up a sign
That simply says
Gone fishin’.

Keep It Off the Seat
02:32
|
|||
Knee deep in pee and poo,
Legislators checkin’ out the hoo hoos
North Carolina’s in deepest doo doo
Whatcha gonna do now whatcha gonna do?
HB 2 you’re in a heap of trouble
Straight white men livin in a bubble
Money money money leavin’ on the double
Whatcha gonna do now whatcha gonna do?
Who’s that lurkin’ round the powder room door
Biggest bunch of bigots that ever was born
A general assembly of goldurn dolts
With their heads stuck in the toilet bowl.
HB 2 you’re in a heap of trouble
Straight white men livin in a bubble
Money money money leavin’ on the double
Whatcha gonna do now whatcha gonna do?
It’s the bathroom panic of 2016
Gonna go down in history
As the dumbest old bill you ever did see
Who cares where you pee just keep it off the seat
Now all you politicians take a warning from me
Won’t be long and you’re surely gonna see
Me and my sisters gonna set you free
To think you’re small thoughts in privacy
To hide out with your hypocrisy
Fade into obscurity
We all know, we all agree
Who cares where you pee just keep it off the seat!

Winding Road
02:54
|
|||
I wish that I could say I’d write roses every day
I’d write a touch of sadness in there too, sometimes life is sad
I’d write a bird high in a tree, to sing its song for you and me
I’d take you where the river flows, take you where the soft winds blow
On our way to no one knows, down the winding road.
But we missed too many turns, road washed out, bridges burned
The way you slammed the door when you walked out—you sure did slam it hard
The supper that’s a-turnin’ cold just a-settin’ there upon the stove
No one here to eat it now, I don’t want it anyhow
Gonna pack my grip and go, down the winding road.
The moment’s past and gone, final words said and done
I’d write a different ending if I could, it’s just a dirty shame
Paper’s gone, pen’s out of ink, got no mind to sit and think
Who was right and who was wrong, in the end you’re just as gone
Gonna to pack my grip and go
Down the winding road.
No one’s right and no one’s wrong, in the end you’re just as gone
Gonna pack my grip and go down
The winding road

You and Me
03:19
|
|||
The pleasure of your company
My mind’s delight and my heart’s ease
Keeper of my secret dreams
I want to tell you how I feel—
You know there’s lots that’s wrong with this old world
But there’s nothing wrong with you and me.
Strong and tender hands beguile
Eyes that warm me with their smile
Songs of darkness, songs of light
And as we stand here tonight—
We know there’s lots that’s wrong with this old world
But you and me we’ll be alright.
There’s times its a rough and rocky road
We cause each other pain
Feel forsaken, hearts are breakin’
We turn away
Foolish pride can sometimes hide
What we really want to say—
The pleasure of your company
My mind’s delight and my heart’s ease
Keeper of my secret dreams
I want to tell you how I feel—
You know there’s lots that’s wrong with this old world
But there’s nothing wrong with you and me.
There is a lot needs fixin’ with this old world/But there’s nothin’ broke with you and me.

Old Jim Crow
03:25
|
|||
Thought Jim Crow was on his deathbed
Thought I saw the carver carvin’ his death head
Thought they wrapped him in his winding sheet
But he done crawled out and he’s a-hittin’ the street.
He’s a-creepin around tryin’ to come and get you
Step at a time til you don’t know what hit you
Deceiver, deluder with a killer con
Look away and everything you got’s done gone.
Gather round take warnin’ you mothers
Gather round take warnin’ you fathers
Gather round all my sisters and my brothers
Old Jim Crows a-tryin’ to come back again.
In 1965 we almost got him
Hollered and he cursed but we kicked him to the bottom
2022 he’s crawlin’ out once more
Backhand, gerrymand it’s all the same Jim Crow.
He’s blowin’ cross the land like an old Southeaster
All dressed up like a two-bit preacher
Bony fingers reachin’ for the hard won prize
Tryin to steal it back before our very eyes.
Gather round take warnin’ you mothers
Gather round take warnin’ you fathers
Gather round all my sisters and my brothers
Old Jim Crows a-tryin’ to come back again. 2x
We gotta kick him back into his hole again….

If I could see your face once more
I’d smile into your eyes once more
I’d pass into the time of day
That shines like gold to light the way
If I could hold your hand again
You’d never walk alone my friend
Into the night that has no end
Where all’s forgiven.
If I could hear your voice again
Catch it riding on the evening wind
Hold it close then set it free
To soar forever in the endless peace.
If I could hold your hand again
You’d never walk alone my friend
Into the night that has no end
Where all’s forgiven.
If I could stop the hands of time
Just for a moment bring to mind
Youth and passion intertwined
Sweetest days sweet friend of mine
If I could hold your hand again
You’d never walk alone my friend
Into the night that has no end
Where all’s forgiven
Into the night that has no end / Where all’s forgiven.

How Now Brown Cow
02:46
|
|||
I left my home when I was 16
Rambled the country around
A little of this and a little of that
Never could settle down.
Now that’s ok when you’re sweet 16
And you ain’t got a care in the world
But when you hit 35 and your future’s on ice
You gotta make a change somewhur.
So I said to myself and myself agreed
(Girl) you got to have stability
Up in the morning, to sleep at night
And some kind of daily routine
A sense of purpose is what you need
Then it came like a voice from on high
Find you someone to be your day to day pal
Your companion in day to day life.
Someone to help take care of you
Someone you can care for too
Someone to give you reason for settling down
To talk to when you’re feeling blue.
Confusion reigned for a little while
As I sorted all the options out
And when the fog cleared, 2 choices remained
Either get a man (wife) or a cow.
How now brown cow
Don’t you know I love you I do
You’re a bony old critter with a mean old tail
But your heart is always true.
How now brown cow
Don’t you know I love you I do
You come thru in the morning and again at night
And I doodle y do love you. You come thru in the morning and again at night / and I doodle y do love you

Remember Us
02:14
|
|||
Many times I’ve listened
Thru the darkness and beyond
On the wind and thru the crashing waves - I hear
Their voices calling, remember
Remember us always.
We were here, our footsteps
Toil and tears touched all you see
We are gone but still our truth remains - you hear
Our voices calling, remember
Remember us always.
At the crossroads we can show you the way
Listen to us now
In the fields and deserts, in the woodland and the mountains
In the deep of many oceans we slipped away
We are gone but still our truth remains - you hear
Our voices calling, remember
Remember us always.
